CHURCH AT TROY

                                                This painting has been sold.

This Sawyier oil painting is considered to be one of his finest in every way. He has captured a Sunday morning at the Church of Troy, located just south of Versailles, Kentucky. The composition, the color, the technique all show Sawyier at his best. There are only about 100 Sawyier oils and this one was created in 1917 at the end of his career.

This painting was owned by mr. Charles H. Kavanaugh, Sr. who owned a store in Lexington, kentucky and acquired the painting from his friend, Paul Sawyier. Mr. Kavanugh's widow, Elizabeth sold this oil, and the wonderful watercolor A RAINY DAY IN LEXINGTON to her sister-in-law Mrs. T. Jerimaiah Beam.
